I Heard A Voice During A Walk Through The Woods
I was walking the other day on a trail when a gentle rain blew in. It was one of those moments were everything felt ok. Have you had that? Where you are aware that God is going to take care of you? It was this foundation of grace that allowed a tough word to come my way without crushing me.
I was praying, and God spoke to me through a passage in James. No audible voice, but I was convicted by this thought: “Josh, you are not infantile in spiritual knowledge, but sometimes you are infantile in spiritual obedience.”
I was cut. I was humbled. I was sweetly broken. Because God loves me enough to speak tough words to me sometimes. I didn’t feel like I had to run and hide in shame. It was a tough word, but with measured grace.
You know what made this a gracious mix of conviction and grace? I was reading through James at the time and was often leaving my time having read the Bible quite unsure if anything important had happened in those quiet times. So when this providential conviction came I was encouraged, far more is happening in our quiet times than we initially see.
Day by day a mine is mined for gold. Some days you only move dirt, but that doesn’t make those days any less important towards the end goal. Do not give up on reading the Bible. Have you stopped reading? Today is a new day. God is not angry, perhaps he desires you to stop being a spiritual infant, but even that is out of love for you. Come to Him, His arms are open.
Growing with you to be childlike in faith,
Josh.
