You're On Your Own Journey
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:15-17
How do we let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts? This text teaches two ways:
By “letting the word of Christ dwell in your richly”. (Verse 16)
By being thankful. (Verse 17)
In order to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, you must be in the Word daily. It’s the water that keeps you healthy on your journey. The goal isn’t to read 5 chapters a day, the goal is to be fed. Pick a verse in your quiet time that you will ‘chew’ on all day. Talk to God about it. We want communion with Him.
In order to be thankful with your present season, you have to stop comparing it to others. If we wait until everything in our life is how we want it to be before we are thankful, we are actually not being thankful. We are being demanding. We are saying, “As long as everything is up to my standard, I’ll be thankful”. But you're on your own journey. Don't compare. Seasons come and go. The Lord is faithful in them all. Work hard. Love well. He's at work even if you don't see Him.
Be gracious with others, and most importantly yourself. Keep walking. Let the words of Christ dwell in you richly and be thankful. By so doing you will let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.
Blessings on your day,
Josh.
