Your Story Isn't Over
This is for those who feel like their life is over because of sin. Who feel like ending it.
I know, personally, the sting of regret. It is a lonely place. A painful place. A dark place. You may feel like your life is slipping away from you and you've been entrenched in sin so long... what hope is there for you now?
I know what it’s like to ponder your past and look at your future. To wonder, “is this all I will ever be, sinful and broken?” Though it is easy to think like this when we are in the bleakest of moments, when we do so we are giving satan far too much credit and are underselling the redemptive heart of God.
Redemption
I know a guy who lived his entire life in sin. Moments before death, I wonder what went through his mind. Perhaps: “I’ve wasted it…” or some other expression of regret and guilt.
When we are in the darkness of regret over sinful decisions, we are probably a lot like that man.
He was on a cross. Being killed beside Jesus. "And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!” (Luke 23:42) We call Him the thief on the cross. Jesus calls him friend, holy, and blameless. If you turn to Jesus, there is more to be written in the book of your life. God can turn your life around. You are never beyond hope. This man, in the eyes of Jesus, was not defined by his past. Neither are you.
The Christian life is about second chances. Third chances... Fourth chances... Your story isn't over, not if the Gospel has something to say. The power that raised Christ from the dead is now at work within you. (Romans 6:10-11) If the Spirit can raise Christ from the dead, surely you are not outside the scope of help.
God doesn’t want this to be the end of your story. In Christ, He can write a new chapter in your life.
Thankful for more chances,
Josh.
Healthy conviction always leads us back to God, regardless of if it is more tender or more stern type.
Just because we have a sinful inclination does not mean we must give in to sinful action.
Fighting sin when it feels good in the moment has to do more with communion with God than white-knuckled effort.
When you feel lost in the darkness of sin, the pathway to the light is Jesus’ blood.
How can Christians who have fallen into sin receive freedom from guilt?
Disapproval of an action or state of heart is not the same thing as condemnation and being disgusted with.
