Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
-Matthew 5:3
How do we become poor in Spirit?
It is a good thing to be aware of your neediness before God. We need Him to supply for our daily spiritual needs. Each day we face decisions that need wisdom. We have opportunities to show love where love would not be expected. We face temptations and discouragements.
Are you capable of handling these on your own and then reporting back to God about how you did? Or are you aware that you are most blessed when you embrace your poverty of spirit, because God will grant you all that you need?
This is why morning prayer is so important. You don’t have to pray for 30 minutes at 5AM. But before you begin your day, what do you need? Ask your heavenly father who delights to give you good gifts. (Luke 11:11-13) Who knows what your day will require of you but Him? Who knows your particular needs more than Him?
Blessed are the poor in spirit because by embracing their neediness, God supplies.
Working to be needy before God with you,
Josh.
Church feels like a chore. My heart feels apathetic to worship and the sermon and I'm a pastor! I desperately want my heart to be alive again to the Sunday worship service. While I do not know why God might bring us to seasons like this, I do believe that He uses all things for our good.
Do you give God the first of your time and energy? Or only the remainder?
Contentment is thanking God for what you have and trusting His sovereign hand for what you do not.
Is there any encouragement for us when the Christian journey feels long and difficult?
Helplessness is a bit like quick sand. The more you try, the deeper you sink. Helplessness is also like baptism. You’ve got to surrender to it to come out the other side.
