God is not as hard on you as you are on yourself.

What elicits tenderness from Jesus is not the severity of the sin but whether the sinner comes to him.

What you need more than another sermon, another how-to book, or a self-help article is to get alone with God.

We all bring objections to God’s love for us. The question is, what does God do with our objections?

Most of our wrong thoughts of God are not untrue thoughts of God, they are simply true thoughts of God taken to the extreme. It is not wrong to think of God as all that we have listed above. He is all of that and more, but we do begin to be unbalanced when that is all we think of God.

You have not out sinned His love. The Lord loves us where we are, but He also loves us too much to keep us there.

The spiritual disciplines are not an end in themselves, but a means to know God better. I imagine God sitting in a coffee shop, off in the corner. I look over and I see two coffees. One’s for me and it’s still steaming. Will I go sit? Or will I look back down at my Netflix episode?

C.S. Lewis says that we are to be childlike in heart, but grown-ups with our minds. So using your mind, why is it so important that we be childlike-- and what does it look like? Here are a couple of reflections:

Are you anxious about the daunting task of being faithful for the rest of your life? God wants to unburden you from that weight.

We sin, we feel shame, that shame leads us to run away from God and others in isolation, then the isolation leaves us empty. Thus, turning to sin we begin the cycle again. Where do we go when we are trapped in this hell of a cycle?

God is near to you in your broken heart— No matter what the broken heart or crushed spirit came from. Beautiful.

A song for the discouraged soul. It is not your hold of Christ that saves, but His hold of you.

What if in our productivity addicted culture we confuse the potential blessing of the green pastures and the still waters with the valley of the shadow of death because we detest the stillness of waiting? What if God's green pasture for you was a season of waiting—Because thats the only place He could get you to stop and sit still? What if the season you needed to hear his sweet, tender voice was the quietness found in waiting? Everybody likes the idea of the still waters until you’re there- and you find that theres nothing to do but wait.

The great danger of western Christianity is that God is a dispensary of gifts for us, and nothing more.

The answer to killing sin and growing closer to God isn’t necessarily do more things, but look more. Gaze more. Sit more. Slow down more. Dwell more with God, and you will be changed.
