Thankful For The Small Things
"I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” -Psalm 9:1
I read this scripture a few days ago and it’s lodged itself into me. I’m sitting at a coffee shop that I go to almost every week. I’m at my favorite table, looking outside as the abnormally chilly April day offers overcast grey skies and sputtering rain. I have the luxury of a car that I drove here. I have the money to buy a cappuccino. I do not worry about where my next meal will come from. I have friends and family who care about me. My country is not being invaded. God is loving. My sins are forgiven. I know I have peace with God, even when my heart is confused and not at peace.
Thankfulness is a discipline, not a reaction
Though there are things in my life I am trying to trust God with, I can still choose to be thankful.
It is good to remind ourselves of the good we have. It’s a bit of a pressure-valve of sorts to the negativity we often hold within us. You can be thankful and upset at the same time. You can be thankful and grieving. They are not mutually exclusive.
It is good and right to “give thanks to you, LORD, with all our heart”.
What are you thankful for?
Thankful,
Josh.
Contentment is thanking God for what you have and trusting His sovereign hand for what you do not.
Healthy conviction always leads us back to God, regardless of if it is more tender or more stern type.
Perhaps it is in the meeting place of our dual emotions where a sacred place with God is formed. A place of honesty and intimacy.
If God wanted you to be somewhere else right now, you’d be there. Live where you are planted.
Helplessness is a bit like quick sand. The more you try, the deeper you sink. Helplessness is also like baptism. You’ve got to surrender to it to come out the other side.
