Our hearts are daily idol factories, grafting our affections onto created things that were never meant to hold our allegiances and affections. Idols promise us life, pleasure, and satisfaction, but in the end, only deliver death.

The question is- How do we lay these sinful desires down?

This morning I was with the Holy One. Not because I deserved it. Not because I'm Special. Not because of anything I did. I was just needy. I voiced my neediness to God. And God loves to glorify Himself when we are needy.

We all bring objections to God’s love for us. The question is, what does God do with our objections?

Perhaps you do not doubt that God forgives and still loves you when you sin. But have you bought into a more subtle theological error? The idea that when you sin, when you fall, when you are at your weakest, you receive a “lesser measure” of grace, than you do when you are faithful and strong?

Most of our wrong thoughts of God are not untrue thoughts of God, they are simply true thoughts of God taken to the extreme. It is not wrong to think of God as all that we have listed above. He is all of that and more, but we do begin to be unbalanced when that is all we think of God.

Perhaps one of the reasons some of us struggle so deeply to grasp the grace of God is because we are not comfortable receiving.

God is not against our pleasure with his laws and commands, but for them! He designed everything. He designed love, sex, money, relationships. Does the engineer know more about the inner workings of a complex machine than the operator?

Do you want to learn the way of human flourishing? The path to the fullest pleasure and satisfaction that life can offer? Then consider the wisdom literature of the Bible.

The key to fighting anxiety.

Perhaps you’ve missed a few days or even months in your bible reading plan for the new year. If that’s you, here are three thoughts to help and encourage you to get back up and continue the pursuit of reading God’s Word.

You have not out sinned His love. The Lord loves us where we are, but He also loves us too much to keep us there.

What encouragement can we hold onto when silence from God enters our lives? When God Feels far, is there hope?

God, Help me in the blessing and the curse of slowness.

In God, we do not have a King so lofty and above our difficulties that He sweeps away our tears with disdain. No, we have a King who has descended into the pain with us. You do not cry alone.

Sin looks enticing because, at the core, sinful action is always a symptom of sinful beliefs.

Sin thrives in darkness. Sin shrivels in the light.

A song for the weary soul who is downtrodden by their sin. Look up, Christian. For there is far more mercy in God than there is sin in you.

He is strong. Able. Creative. On time. Perfect. Powerful. Sustaining. Refreshing. Purposeful in all seasons. The darkness has just as much purpose as the light.

Tiredness is a symptom of a deeper reality; so it is with our spiritual fatigue. There is a distinction to be made between being tired from time to time and staying tired. That is when you need to take a more serious look, what are the symptoms revealing?

Having unmet desires is not a unique experience for some Christians, we all experience it. But each experience of it is unique. Here are a few thoughts to help guide us when this is our season.
